Model for Equitable Technology Implementation in the Classroom: Accessibility, Authenticity, and Practicality

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine technology use and the pedagogical technology strategies employed in classrooms. The research aims to serve a national need of preparing a highly-qualified educator workforce with an innovative technological skill-set to effectively teach in high-needs schools. The authors addressed whether the smart use of technology can ameliorate the vast equity differences between low-poverty and high-poverty schools. It was therefore necessary to develop a model grounded in clinical practice that promotes reasonable and equitable technology integration. Data for the model was collected through classroom observations in-person, asynchronously, and synchronously online. The Accessibility, Authenticity, and Practicality (AAP) Model serves as a guide for educators for both when and how to use technology in the classroom.
