Maroon Epistemologies: Afro-Caribbean Women Teachers

Abstract

Cultivating equitable education systems means caring for and recognizing the plights of those who are most integral to the teaching and learning process, this includes the recruiting and hiring of emigrants from foreign countries. In addition to their relevance to the AERA theme of creating equitable educational systems, there has not been a study like this one. Addressing the continued gap in research and educational spaces related to understanding Afro-Caribbean teachers is long overdue. This paper addresses this gap by highlighting two phenomena 1. Maroon epistemologies and 2. Brain maturity both of which will add to what we know about race, justice and international teachers generally and Caribbean teachers specifically.
