Abstract

The purpose of the IES Montessori Preschool Study is to conduct a large-scale, multisite RCT in order to fully understand the impacts of the Montessori preschool model on young children’s learning outcomes in public schools. As the second, post-COVID cohort of the study is just getting underway, as a first analysis, this paper will examine the characteristics of students who are admitted to public Montessori programs through a lottery with characteristics of students who are wait listed and are not able to attend, comparing these patterns to those in the study’s initial cohort just before COVID-19. The paper will also share initial findings about what types of programs children who are wait listed through these lotteries end up attending.
