Abstract

This paper explores how technographic methods mediated a participatory action research (PAR) project conducted in collaboration with skateboarders under COVID-related public health restrictions. This paper addresses the challenges of conducting an interdisciplinary PAR project online and how to foster caring research communities in a digitally mediated space. Further, the authors offer suggestions and strategies on how to cultivate online research experiences that are relevant, flexible, meaningful, and impactful. Relatedly, the paper makes a data-driven argument for the inclusion of visual data in social justice research. In sum, the authors seek to present key methodological considerations for interdisciplinary, online participatory action research and build a case for continued and sustained online PAR projects even after the COVID-19 pandemic subsides.
