Will the Real Teacher Please Stand Up? A Self-Study of COVID-19 Virtual University Instruction

Abstract

Will the real teacher please stand up? I was feeling an overwhelming sense of imposter syndrome. As the pandemic drug on, higher education institutions continued to offer online course options. Teaching online, creating virtual space to learn, and facilitate student growth became exhausting. Something was going on, it was not just that this was a new phenomenon, I wanted to figure out what was contributing to my burnout. This paper is rooted in a framework of self-study research (Pinnegar & Hamilton, 2009; Paugh & Robinson, 2009; Samaras, 2011). The question driving this self-study of my practice was, How have COVID-19 pandemic restrictions of online instruction influenced my understanding of my teaching and identity as a teacher within a teacher education program?
