Mediating Effect of Well-Being on the Relationships Between Teacher Leadership and Social Emotional Competence Among Chinese Teachers

Abstract

Teachers are the engine that drives teacher leadership (TL), social and emotional competence (SEC), and wellbeing (WB) practices in schools and classrooms, which are considered the key to strongly enhancing students', teachers’ and schools’ development. Online survey in elementary, middle level, and high school teachers from three provinces in the context of China (N=570) provided responses. Confirmatory factor analysis was used to analysis the data. This study explored the relationship among TL, SEC, and WB, meanwhile the mediation effect of WB on the relationship between TL and SEC was explored. After validating the scales, the results indicated that TL significantly affected SEC and WB, and WB significantly affected SEC. Meanwhile, WB was significantly mediating the effect between TL and SEC.
