Are We Prepared to Serve? Validation of the Trauma Skilled Readiness Assessment

Abstract

As educators understand more about the impact of trauma on school success, we are observing the development and implementation of trauma-focused initiatives across K-12. One such initiative is the Trauma Skilled Schools Model (TSSM), created by researchers and practitioners at the National Dropout Prevention Center to support coping and resilience among students by providing school staff with knowledge and skills that will allow them to meet the academic and social-emotional needs of all students, whether they have experienced trauma or not. Prior to implementation of the model, the Trauma Skilled Readiness Assessment (TSRA) is administered to assess the preparedness of school staff for universal change; this paper presents initial evidence of validity and reliability of the TSRA.
