Abstract

The Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function, second edition (BRIEF-2) is a widely used standardized narrowband rating scale designed to estimate everyday behaviors relating to self-regulatory and executive functions critical for school success. The utility of the BRIEF-2 has expanded in schools, yet independent validations of the teacher form and for adolescents with emotional and behavioral disorders (EBD) is limited. Confirmatory (CFA) and exploratory factor analyses (EFA) examined the internal structure of BRIEF-2 teacher form (n = 37) on a group of students with EBD (n = 254). Results indicated an approximate model fit; however, the EFA reported a number of cross-loaded items across indices indicating that less than nine subscales may be optimal in diverse populations.
