Domain-Specificity of Online Information Use in Solving Job-Related Tasks in Law, Medicine, and Teaching

Abstract

Young professionals in medicine, law and teaching increasingly use online information in their professional day-to-day. Along with opportunities, the use of online media for information purposes pose challenges. To provide young professionals with the best possible support at the beginning of their careers, it is crucial to know what is expected from them in terms of professional media use in job-related contexts, which specific tasks and challenges they are confronted with and whether the required skills can be fostered in a domain-specific or generic training. We conducted and analyzed expert interviews and identified general and domains-specific requirements in all three domains. The results are used to design and implement digital training that can effectively foster job-related online media use.
