This study examined the extent to which parental English language fluency and approaches to learning affected English reading growth trajectories among a large sample of English Learner students (N = 1,126) in the United States. A latent class growth curve model (LCGM) was implemented to identify ELs’ English reading growth trajectories at time of kindergarten entry through fifth grade. Analysis through the LCGM yielded four distinct English reading development profiles. Results indicated that EL students in the highest performing group had parents with lower levels of English language skills and higher levels of approaches to learning. This study contributes to the innovation of educational research on the longitudinal growth patterns of EL students.
