Transforming the World Through Family Education: Enhancing Equality for Roma Community

Abstract

All around the world, the educational gap the Roma people is facing is far from disappear. Indeed, in Spain only the 1% of the total Roma students achieve a university degree, comparing to the 35% of the general population. However, certain educational actions, known as Successful Educational Actions (Flecha, 2015) are contributing to overcoming this gap. This paper explores the impact of the last 10 years of one particular SEAs, named “Family Education”. For so doing, interviews, and focus groups were conducted. Results show how participation rates have being increasing since 2012. Moreover, the participants highlighted the transformation their communities are experienced due to their involvement in the program. These results contribute to open up new horizons in adult education.
