Abstract

The paper presents research on a pilot program, Youth Dialogue Institute [YDI], conducted in high schools in the School District of Philadelphia [SDP]. A mixed-methods study was conducted to explore 1) the impact of YDI as a component of a conflict education and restorative practices culture 2) how media-infused and media-platformed dialogue processes were created and used by participants and 3) the youth leadership development benefits and challenges for YDI youth. This paper studies how YDI fulfills the critical goal in SDP to develop a broad array of peace-building initiatives to prepare and empower students to be effective social change agents especially in areas of diversity, inclusion, and equity. Results suggest a successful year on all measures.
