Reducing Student Behavioral Incidents With a Multidisciplinary Team-Based Approach: A Quasi-Experimental Intervention

Fri, April 22, 11:30am to 1:00pm PDT (11:30am to 1:00pm PDT), San Diego Convention Center, Exhibit Hall B

Abstract

The research described in this study was a longitudinal quasi-experimental investigation of the effectiveness of a new SRO training method on the average number of disciplinary incidents over the course of three years. The intervention to embed SROs multi-disciplinary teams with mental health personnel and administrator was designed to reduce risk behaviors in students. Results indicate that while schools with a state-trained SRO did have a lower rate of increase in disciplinary incidents compared to a school with no SRO, the SRO working with schools in a multidisciplinary team, including a mental health professional, showed a significant decrease in the average number of incidents over time.
