Profiles of Mindsets About SRL and Intelligence: Are They Related to SRL and Academic Performance?

Abstract

Our paper ties in with the latest mindset research and examines mindset profiles and their relation to SRL and academic performance. Results from three studies with a total of N = 595 university students indicate that students differ in their mindset-based meaning systems depending on their Growth Mindsets and Relevance Mindsets about SRL and INT. The replication of the three mindset profiles Entity-Theory, Balanced-Theory, and SRL-Theory, with different samples, indicates a broader validity. The results highlight the strong relation of SRL-Theory and students’ SRL and support the conclusion that students with this mindset-based meaning system have the most favorable preconditions for successful learning. The detected mindset profiles provide diagnostic information that can be used to design teaching and learning environments.
