Abstract

While critical reflection practices and frameworks have been proposed in teacher education, a TESOL-specific tool that engages with the unique complexities of world Englishes has not been developed. The current study engages in critical praxis by providing an evidence-based Critical Language Reflection Tool (CLRT) for TESOL educators. Fifteen TESOL preservice teachers and one teacher educator engaged with the CLRT over one semester. The CLRT was applied to 45 journal entries (three per participant) and analyzed to understand how it could help teacher educators promote deep, critical reflection. A portrait of practice is presented with examples, followed by a discussion on how the CLRT can be used to promote critical reflection and critical consciousness in TESOL classroom contexts.
