Abstract

Community school managers are the linchpin to having a successful community school as they perform their role as collaborative leaders and cultivate, create, and sustain relationships with a variety of stakeholders. This paper explore the ways in which community school managers frame and recruit stakeholders, build bonds between and among stakeholders, and assess, adjust, and reinforce bonds during the life of the collaboration cycle. These three phases are addressed through the lens of community school managers’ views on relationship building in general, across constituent groups (school-based, district-based, and community-based) and relationship-building in support of succession planning and the longevity of the community school and its ability to serve its students and their families.
