The Freirean Origins of the Dialogic Transformation of All Science Disciplines

Abstract

Paulo Freire advanced to Habermas’ theory of communicative action more than a decade earlier with his theory of dialogic action. However, the way in which this advancement has given educational theory and practice a leading role in dialogically reorienting all science disciplines has not been explored in depth yet. With the aim of exploring the Freirean origins of the current dialogic transformation of all science disciplines, 17 interviews with researchers who, from the dialogic, Freirean orientation, are conducting and leading European research and contributing to transforming all sciences. Results show the Freirean origins that have led to introducing co-creation and social impact as a requirement for research funded by the European Commission’s Framework Programme, contributing to promoting equitable education systems.
