Global South Informed DisCrit: Accounting a Global Intersectional Dis/ability Politics

Abstract

The proposed conceptual paper engages a Global South informed Disability Critical Race Studies (DisCrit). The authors do this by: a) locating dis/ability in today’s geopolitical context; b) problematizing the existing binary between the Global North and Global South divide for dis/ability politics; and, (c) including the voices of subaltern people with dis/abilities in the Global South to reimagine the work in Disability Studies (DS) and DisCrit. The work of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) in the Global South is exemplified. Finally, this paper concludes by proposing a more humane and liberatory, Global intersectional dis/ability politics for DisCrit.
