Abstract: This participatory action research study explored perspectives of home-based providers from Virginia, whose voices are often missing from the early childhood educator workforce research and policy forums. This study
elicited perspectives of home-based providers on the following research questions:
(1) the communities they serve and what motivates them to serve those communities,
(2), how they understand and deliver quality care,
(3) how provision of accessible, affordable care impacts their ability to meet quality standards,
(4) the unique benefits and challenges of home-based child care, and
(5) the supports they need to provide optimal care.
