Gendered Perceptions of STEM Faculty Workload

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to understand gendered perceptions within STEM faculty workplace with a particular focus on understanding the barriers to success at a midwestern university. The paper discusses four common themes identified through faculty focus groups. The data revealed that Men and Women perceived their workloads very differently with the perception of men usually aligning with the ways in which faculty are rewarded in academia. This study offers insights to STEM faculty workplace and gender perceptions
