Life or Death Decisions: How Physical Safety Influences Black Graduate Women's Responses to Gendered-Racial Microaggressions

Sat, April 23, 11:30am to 1:00pm PDT (11:30am to 1:00pm PDT), San Diego Convention Center, Exhibit Hall B

Abstract

This study examined how Black female graduate students respond to gendered-racial microaggressions at a historically White institution. Using Critical Race Theory as a framework, this study also explored the social and psychological factors that contribute to their responses. Findings showed that participant responses were influenced by a fear of being physically or sexually assaulted.
