The purpose of this paper was to examine the psychometric adequacy of the self-regulated learning profile and self-diagnostic instrument (SRL-PSD) specifically to examine and provide self-diagnostic feedback to learners about their SRL practices, priorities and efficacy as well as the academic challenges they encounter. The measure emphasizes metacognitive beliefs and practices contributing to academic success that are often underexamined in measures of SRL. Participants were 473 students enrolled in a Western Canadian university. Confirmatory Factor Analysis and Structural Equation Modeling were used to validate the scale and to estimate its association with academic performance. The SRL-PSD appears to be a practical self-report method for the assessment of students’ SRL profile and for providing self-diagnostic feedback to prompt students’ metacognitive awareness.
