Thu, April 21, 11:30am to 1:00pm PDT (11:30am to 1:00pm PDT), Manchester Grand Hyatt, Floor: 2nd Level, Harbor Tower, Balboa B

Abstract

This research synthesis discusses why diversity in the leadership pipeline is critical. First, an overview of the most current demographics revealed glaring disparity in race/ethnicity and gender representation in the principalship. A subsequent examination of relevant empirical research demonstrated and suggested clear benefits of having a diverse principal workforce, especially for teachers, students, and parents of color. Further review of the research available revealed bias against and barriers for aspiring school leaders of color and females, which are detrimental to individual candidates and the state of U. S. education as a whole.
