Affect(ively) Exploring the Hidden Space of Curriculum: A Film "Re"View

This paper explores the concept of hidden curriculum through a posthumanist analysis of the French movie, The Class (2008). Drawing from posthumanist theories of affect, our ‘re’view explores the hidden dimensions of curriculum that are often neglected from our anthropocentric view of education. To do this, we choose particular scenes from the film and analyze how emotive intensities and matter “work” in classroom instruction, teacher/student relationships, and the labeling of students. By disrupting its stable definitions, our posthumanist approach offers a novel understanding of the hidden curriculum as an affective space, and also pushes the teachable, learnable, and researchable boundaries of curriculum.
