Teacher Pay, Teacher Motivation, and Student Achievement: Comparative Literature Critique

Abstract

Analyzing cross country comparison literature linking teacher performance pay and student achievement, I argue that teacher motivation factors across country contexts are important mediators are often assumed constant in the current research. Without comprehensively accounting for teacher behavior effects and non-pecuniary motivating factors, cross country comparison literature is limited in providing a conclusive results around teacher performance pay.
