Re/storying Environmental Education: Baskets Full of Intra-Connection

Abstract

In this research, an adapted form of Collective Biography is enacted that questions the privileging of the individual (human or other than human) as the main focus of inquiry. It acknowledges the co-creation of stories that, while told by the individual, emerge finally as a result of collective exploration. The stories told explore the ways in which environmental agency is understood, mediated, and inhibited in women environmentalists, but they also offer a deeper opportunity for environmental education. Through the entanglement of these told stories with this particular theoro-methodological framework, intra-connected baskets of stories are filled with offerings that can help re/story environmental education pedagogies: stories of sense-making; stories of finding kin; stories of growing power; and stories of taking care.
