A Multi-Professional Exploration of Faculty Members' Instructional Experiences During the Pandemic

Abstract

The purpose of this exploratory study is to understand the instructional impacts to faculty at a research-intensive, graduate and professional education campus. A repeated, cross sectional survey with both descriptive and qualitative items explored the impact of the virtual instructional pivot across multiple professions, including medical, nursing, social work, pharmacy, graduate, law, library, and dentistry faculty at an urban campus. Technology use, instructional practices, and faculty well-being emerged as challenges, whereas student attitudes, instructional supports and practices were identified as positives. Results suggest more investment in instructional technology and assessment related faculty development and facilitating peer supported instructional development can benefit faculty across professions.
