Abstract

Efforts to distinguish the EdD from the PhD are continuing across the US. Staff of the Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate (CPED) and faculty at CPED-member institutions are increasingly focused on ways to strengthen and enhance mentoring and advising of EdD students on their journey to transform from experienced practitioners to scholarly practitioners. This conceptual and exploratory paper provides a deeply connected literature foundation upon which to experiment with creating and adopting effective mentoring and advising strategies through the use of protocols.
