Role of Mentoring for Latina Entry-Level Student Affairs Professionals

Abstract

This qualitative study explored mentoring experiences of early-career Latina higher education administrators and the impact they have as they transition into the field as new professionals. A group of 8 Latina higher education administrators with five or less years of full-time experience in the field were interviewed for this study. A Chicana feminist perspective was used as the framework guiding this study. Findings suggest that these Latina administrators found mentors and supportive communities both inside and outside of their institution and were fundamental to their transition into the field as early professionals.
