International Higher Education in the Age of Global Reason: A Poststructural Perspective

Mon, April 25, 2:30 to 4:00pm PDT (2:30 to 4:00pm PDT), San Diego Convention Center, Exhibit Hall B

Abstract

The relationship between globalization and internationalization in higher education remains an important area of research and scholarship. Poststructural approaches to internationalization at multiple levels of analysis should aim to challenge normalized and often taken-for-granted ways of knowing the world in which we live and critique the set of practices that have become coordinated with particular regimes of truth. Analyzing the increasingly globalized nature of higher education policies and practices at multiple levels of analysis allows for a more complex representation of twenty-first century international higher education. It helps to detail knowledge production associated with neoliberalism, globalization, and internationalization, as well as the manifold complexities related to higher education practices and international student subjectivity.
