The Development, Validation, and Implementation of an Academic Acculturation Scale

The 28-item Academic Acculturation Scale was developed and tested on a diverse population of students. The AAS scores were assessed for reliability, construct validity (through factor analysis, convergent, and discriminant validity), and criterion validity (through concurrent validity). Overall, the AAS appears to have sound reliability and validity, making it a psychometrically sound instrument for undergraduate college students. Through examining the psychometric properties of the newly developed AAS as well as examining whether it is predictive of academic performance, the validation of this instrument is complete. Results of the validation study should be informative for researchers, educators, and administrators and has provided the researcher with a foundation with which to adapt the items for K-12 students.
