From Crow Tits to Fake Dreams: A Marxian Analysis of BTS Lyrics

Abstract

Korean pop group, BTS, is often commended as a “global sensation” and has earned its way to the top of the musical charts. They are well known for their powerful performance and ability to charm the hearts of millions across the world. More importantly, BTS is often praised for their ability to connect with listeners across race, nationality, gender, and age. One reason for this is that their lyrics offer social critique and give listeners deep questions to grapple with. Using content analysis, this paper examines how BTS’s music, specifically their lyrics, promote a Marxian perspective towards education.
