Abstract

Luis A. Leyva, Ph.D. (he/him/his) is an assistant professor of mathematics education at Vanderbilt University – Peabody College. Leyva will address how QOCC and QueerCrit (queer critical race theory) shape his theoretical and methodological approaches to research alongside queer and trans* students of color in STEM. He will draw on insights from his study exploring queer of color counterstories across historically white and minority-serving institutions that convey workings of STEM education as a white, cisheteropatriarchal space. Leyva will also discuss how QOCC/Queer Crit shape his orientations as a classroom teacher and research lab director.
