The Process of Designing a Mixed-Methods Research Study Using Secondary Data

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to describe the process used to design a mixed methods research study using secondary data and critical decisions made to navigate the process. The primary data was collected as part of a street participatory action research project, and data were generated using surveys, blood pressure tests, interviews, and field observations. Findings describe the process of gaining access to the secondary dataset and illustrate the critical decision points in the development of designing the study as well as how the methodological and theoretical frameworks were used to inform those decisions.
