(Counter)Cartographies: Education Journey Mapping for Program Improvement in Teacher Education

Thu, April 21, 11:30am to 1:00pm PDT (11:30am to 1:00pm PDT), San Diego Convention Center, Exhibit Hall B

Abstract

Drawing from the fields of Geography, Marketing, Business, and Education, this study used journey mapping as a method of capturing teacher candidates’ experiences in a teacher education program. The process of education journey mapping positioned teacher candidates as cartographers of our teacher education program, charting ways teacher education, broadly, and our program, specifically, could be more responsive to their needs. The results offered new insights and stimulated new dialogues regarding how the teacher education program influenced teacher candidates’ relationship to themselves as educators, to their peers as colleagues, and to the field of teaching.
