This presentation provides an overview of the Conceptual “I,” a theoretical framework for teaching preservice teachers cultural competence so they can provide their CLD students with equitable teaching. The Conceptual “I” was designed as the theoretical framework for the following teacher preparation course: Teaching Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Learners. Looking at the Personal Lens, CRT Educator Lens and the Systemic/Institutional Lens, the Conceptual “I” provides preservice teacher candidates with the systemic support they need to teach CLD students in their future classrooms. Each dimension of the Conceptual “I” is rooted in research on the culturally responsive teaching and learning.
