Microaggressions Experienced by Black Children in Early Childhood Education: A Content Validation of the D-Three Effect Inventory

Abstract

This study sought to determine the content validity of the D-Three EffectInventory (DTEI). The DTEI is a needs assessment instrument intended
to evaluate the three common stereotypes Black children face in early child education (e.g., preschool through third grade). The instrument is
designed for use by parent educators and parent advocates who work with the families of Black children. Overall, the assessment of the DTEI’s
content validity demonstrated the instrument’s items were both relevant and clear. Across all measures for assumptions of criminality, ascriptions of intelligence, and second-class citizenship, the instrument exceeded
thresholds for content validity and scale validity.
