Tools to assess critical thinking in secondary students are limited, despite the consensus of scholars and educators on their significance in modern education. Building on the prior measure of Cornell Critical thinking test, a game-based assessment tool is developed and used to measure the critical thinking from a sample of secondary students in Shanghai. The results show that: 1) students' overall critical thinking is high, but their performance in induction is poor; 2) critical thinking is related to many factors. This study has shown a new approach for assessing critical thinking in secondary students. Although the implementation of gamed-based assessment is only in its early stages, it would be a great help in preparing students to become critical thinkers.
