What are the perceptions of the different participants and actors of the school-to-military pipeline about the role that they, schools, and the U.S. Department of Defense play in recruiting secondary school students into the U.S. Armed Forces? This question is important because how we perceive this relationship informs how we feel it, which allows for structures and systems to remain or not remain in place. Key to this understanding is how the military is portrayed in the popular media and popular discourse as heroic, patriotic, and necessary. Further, important to keep in mind is that the military is one of the few options available to HS students from marginalized communities and questioning whether this should be an option at all.
