The current project took place in the state of Texas during the 2018-2019 academic school year in which racist and xenophobic sociopolitical sentiments of Trump’s presidency resulted in ongoing threats and actions of violence against Latinx peoples in the US. ICE raids were an immediate fear and material threat to the majority Mexican American and Mexican origin community and research setting of Academia Cuauhtli. This study considers the curricular responses of experienced, certified bilingual teachers, as they designed and implemented lessons in Spanish with Academia Cuauhtli students and community in direct response to these threats and actions of violence. I frame the work within the academic literature of Ethnic Studies as a needed curricular intervention of resistance.
