Thriving Through New Pathways to Teacher Preparation Programs

Abstract

This study describes the Promotorx Transformative Educator Program, a component of the DHSI Promotoras Scholars Project. The methods of data collection include a post-participation survey and participant interviews. We examine the effectiveness of the program to center the lives and experiences of PTEP participants in teaching/learning experiences and how these experiences impact decisions to enter the field of education. Our research indicates that PTEP was effective in motivating predominantly ChicanX/LatinX students to consider the teaching profession through centering their lived experiences and demonstrating how they could transform educational spaces by being change agents and cultural workers in the profession.
