Research Use for Improvement and Equity Purposes Across Education Research-Practice Partnerships

Abstract

Educators face steep challenges recovering from a global health pandemic and addressing additional pandemics named by Ladson-Billings (2021): systemic racism and threats from economic and environmental injustice and decline. Research-practice partnerships (RPPs) offer a strategy for addressing entrenched and emerging equity challenges through collaboration on research production and use, with developing but limited evidence documenting what it takes to do so (Coburn & Penuel, 2016; Bevan & Penuel, eds., 2017; Penuel & Hill, 2019; Peterson, et al, 2020; Biag, et al, 2021). Using document analysis, interviews, and case studies for a purposively sampled set of RPPs, this study examines conditions that support or hinder research use toward improvement and equity goals across different types of RPPs under one state context.
