The Racial School Climate Gap in Urban Public Schools

Abstract

Prior statewide research has showed that students of color have poorer perceptions of their schools’ climates than White students (Bottiani et al., 2016; Voight et al., 2015). This study showed that within a large urban district, students of color largely had more positive views of their schools compared to White students. Black students generally had more positive views than Latinx students. Implications for theory and practice are discussed.
