High-Need Areas in the Use of Evidence-Based Interventions: Baseline Findings From an EBI Training Program

Abstract

Since passage of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), educational leaders and decision-makers have been charged with ensuring that their school-improvement initiatives are evidence-based and thus expected to achieve identified outcomes for students and schools. While ESSA has contributed to a critical push in the use of research evidence and the adoption of evidence-based interventions (EBIs), there are unidentified needs or gaps in the knowledge and skills required of K-12 practitioners as well as within the higher-education community for selecting, implementing, and evaluating these interventions. This study reports on a pre-workshop survey to clarify needs for effective use of EBIs.
