Unfolding Young Children's Metacognition During Computational Thinking Through an Unplugged Approach

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to develop a preliminary understanding of
learners' metacognition and its role in computational problem-solving in elementary
education. The development of one's metacognition can be seen as an opportunity to
address ongoing issues in CT and vice versa. However, the current literature lacks
developmental and behavioral indicators of how metacognitive strategies emerge in
solving computational problems. Our analysis provides insight into how CT can guide
teachers to explicitly teach metacognitive strategies and influence student problem
solving and learning outcomes.
