Examining the curriculum and teaching approaches in a youth-led participatory action research (PAR), this study examines the process through which youth participants developed a proposal for productive change in their local community and presented it to community decision-makers. The study explores the ways in which the curriculum and pedagogy engaged a pedagogy of praxis. The discussion examines the ways in which a pedagogy of praxis increased critical analysis skills, situated learning in young people’s lived experiences and applied learning to an action plan for community change. The paper discusses implications for the ways in which educators, policymakers, researchers, and youth workers can imagine working with young people in arts-based social justice collaborations as agents of community change.
