Reflections on Programs' Intentions to Diversify the Principal Pathway

Abstract

Research asserts that principals play prominent roles in student outcomes and educators’ experiences. Further, leaders of color are more positively associated with notable outcomes and conditions for students of color, including higher school attendance, placement in gifted programs, and math achievement. Using narrative inquiry, this study endeavors to address the gap in research regarding how graduates of programs that seek to diversify the principal pathway experience educational leadership preparation programs and their careers after completing programs by answering the research questions: (1) How do graduates of color and White graduates experience their leadership preparation in programs seeking to diversify the principal pathway? and (2) How do graduates of color and White graduates experience the subsequent pursuit of educational leadership positions?
