Etho/embodied Practices of Partiality in Arts-Based Educational Research

Abstract

Presenters take up etho/embodiment through the turn to affect in educational arts-based research (ABER) through Herman’s (2020) notion of partiality as a generative ontological disposition. Presenters discuss on-going research projects from two different universities in order to examine contemporary ethical responsibilities for ABER. Presenters argue that the responsibility of the ABER is pursuing an ethical awareness of partiality – an understanding that otherness and difference are a fundamental part of living in relation to others. This raises important implications for placing an ethics of embodiment at the heart of ABER where we learn with the world rather than about it so that we may live ethically in an interconnected world.
