Abstract

Given that education is a public good and human right, every eligible person should access and achieve quality education. Yet, the implementation of equality in education jeopardizes equity which is seldom addressed. The purpose of this desktop study was to examine inequity issues in online African higher education. The findings reveal that most students (55%) lag due to pedagogical issues and inability to acquire, access and use digital learning materials. Majority (65%) of faculty lack online teaching and assessment skills. This scenario raises a major challenge around educational inequity. Higher education institutions should invest in online teaching and learning to reach out to the registered and potential students to assess their online educational needs and address them.
