Developing Stakeholders' Readiness to Thrive Online: A Higher Education Research-Practice Partnership

Abstract

Online courses are now mainstream throughout higher education. It is important in online learning to focus on assisting students to learn how to learn and build content knowledge as well as 21st century skills. Using a research-practice partnership and design-based research, this work tackles the practical challenges and needs related to online learning for stakeholders so they build their capacity to be better online and lifelong learners. Through iterative design and mixed-methods data collection, the partners can identify the needs of stakeholders based on their experiences and use of resources. Some stakeholders are hesitant at first, but after engaging with resources see the value to help them engage in online learning. The partnership experiences tensions in the research-practice environment.
